Patient’s Question:
Hi Dr. Friedman,
What is a hair transplant reversal? I saw that term recently but did not follow up on it, but, is that what I think it is? A reversal of a hair transplant? Under what circumstances would that happen?
Dr. Friedman’s Answer:
We can remove old transplanted 4mm “plugs” from the recipient region and cut them into follicular unit grafts of 1, 2, 3, and 4 hairs. We can then transplant these more natural appearing grafts into thinning or balding areas. This will have a dual advantage: 1) The old plugs will no longer be pluggy in appearance and 2) The follicular unit grafts will give more surface coverage with less detectability.
