Patient’s Question:
I have been using over-the-counter Rogaine for over five years now and recently I started to notice that it has stopped working as well as it used to work. Why should this be happening?
Dr. Friedman’s Answer:
No one really knows why Rogaine works and no one really knows why Rogaine stops working. In most individuals we will see a decrease in hair loss but no re-growth with Rogaine or the generic minoxidil.
As to why it stopped working, we assume that the follicles become resistant to the minoxidil and is not as sensitive to the minoxidil; therefore, you do not get the same results.
You are not the only one who has experienced this. This has happened to many people over the years.
